Joyfully Onward
Choosing joy in times of struggle can be hard, but not nearly as difficult as living life without gratitude and hope.
As some of you may know, I have navigated a season of personal struggle and discernment over the last year — a time that has invited me to look honestly at my life, my gifts, and the direction I feel called to grow.
Earlier this month, after much reflection and prayer, I made the decision to answer a long-emerging call to congregational ministry. So I applied to the Masters in Divinity program at Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California — fully expecting to attend virtually and for the process to unfold gradually.
And as soon as I did, improbable doors opened for me with startling clarity and speed. Much to my surprise, I have been offered a full scholarship to begin next month as a full-time student, and a room with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge that costs less than what I would pay here in Cedar Rapids.
This, of course, wrinkles my plan to remain your Congregational Administrator. I share with you now my bittersweet decision to embrace this opportunity with courage. As of December 1st, I will shift to fully remote work and, in partnership with Rev. Carin and the Board of Trustees, train and onboard a replacement as soon as possible.
Thank you for the trust you’ve placed in me, the grace we’ve extended to one another, and the spirit of hope that continues to define this congregation. I am committed to supporting a smooth, stable transition over the coming months — and I will continue cheering for this community from afar with profound gratitude for the privilege of serving alongside you.
Warmly,
David Kind
