How Are We Embracing Possibility?

Springtime is a season for dreaming โ€“ or, as our theme of the month names it: embracing possibility. The backyard gardener in me is embracing possibility as I imagine the right soil, seed, sun, and water producing gorgeous flowers and tasty treats.

When it comes to congregational life, Iโ€™m feeling the spiritual gardener in me awaken, too. I ask myself โ€“ and some of you, too โ€“ the following questions about embracing possibility:

  • Whatโ€™s going so well at Peoples Church that we canโ€™t help but be excited about it?

  • If we were to embrace the best scenarios we can imagine, what might be possible?

  • How do we focus our resources so that we embody our dreams with a deeper joy?

One of the handful of dreams Iโ€™m so grateful for and excited about at Peoples Church is the potential for a professionalized Music Ministry. A task force of congregants (thank you Bryan Davis, Kathleen Mavity, and Judy Price!) drafted the following purpose statement, and Iโ€™d love to hear how it resonates for the rest of you.

Purpose of the Music Ministry:

The music ministry at Peoples Church UU unites, inspires, and enlivens our community through the joy of shared music in fulfilling our mission: leading compassionate lives through spiritual growth and just action.

Goals of the Music Ministry:

  1. Support the spiritual well-being of the church

  2. Encourage creativity and growth of musical talents

  3. Work with the worship team to enhance the worship experience

  4. Provide leadership to provide deeper connection at the interpersonal, group and community levels

Let me know what you think and feel! As we continue to center Love, may we embrace possibility โ€“ together.

Growing in Faith,

Rev. Carin

PS: Iโ€™ll be on vacation for a week in mid-April to celebrate my momโ€™s 85th birthday with her โ€“ and I will look forward to reconnecting with you upon my return.
