As Peoples Church prepares to celebrate Juneteenth with the wider Cedar Rapids community on Saturday, June 20th, we’ll explore the history of Juneteenth as well as the way our UU commitment to dismantling racism calls us into the future. LGTBQ+ Pride Month is a time to ground in the strength that community brings. When transgender and other queer beloveds are too often misunderstood and targeted for being their authentic selves, Unitarian Universalists show up with love at the center. Special music by Deborah Dakin.

Throughout history, people have tapped the power of music to defy, embolden, and empower. People are using that power today through a developing mass movement called the Singing Resistance. Everyday Americans are using it as a way to protect, care for, and energize our communities in the face of rising authoritarianism. Come learn some songs of the Resistance, see how they represent many of our UU values, and experience how solidarity flourishes through music.
