Forum: Reflections on a World Religions Class at 9:45 a.m.
Come explore a few reflections about World Religions on Sunday, March 1, 2026 @ 9:45a.m. - 10:45 a.m. in the Ely Room.
This Forum will be hosted by Rev. Carin Bringelson, Renate Bernstein, and Linda Kappler.
Recently, a small handful of Peoples people participated in a World Religions class facilitated by Pastor Scott Meador of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church. In a nutshell:
The class met for 6 Wednesdays in January and February โ and discussed the book God Is Not One by Stephen Prothero.
We also compiled further resources about the religions we discussed.
Come explore what we learned!
โFaith by Numbersโ at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary
Led by Rev. Carin Bringelson โ Ramadan โ which started in mid-February this year โ is the holy month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community in the Muslim tradition. Ramadan is also considered one of the โFive Pillarsโ of Islam. In the Unitarian Universalist tradition, there are six Shared Values โ all centering around a Liberating Love. What might come from paying attention when these two religious traditions are in dialogue with one another?

Second Sunday Social Justice Forum at 9:45 a.m.
Do immigrants depend on our social and health welfare programs? Do immigrants want to maintain the language and cultures of the countries they came from at the expense of assimilation? What is wrong with our current system of immigration and how can it be fixed? What is your own immigration story and how does it differ from current immigrant stories?
The Social Justice Team will be holding a Forum to discuss these questions and other immigration issues on Sunday. March 8 at 9:45 am in the Ely Room. To learn more check out our book read, Immigration Realities: Challenging Common Misperceptions by Ernesto Castaneda & Carina Cione. You don't have to read the book to join the discussion and we hope to see you there.
โWhat Grows in Our Gazeโ at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary
Led by Danny Anderson, PCUU member โ To pay attention to someone is to say, โYou matter.โ In a world that constantly competes for our focus, choosing to stay present with one another can be a quiet act of love. This Sunday, through story and reflection, we explore how what we notice shapes love, parenting, friendship, and community. How might what grows in our gaze transform the way we live together?

โComposting the Newsโ at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary
Led by Rev. Carin Bringelson โ Given the deluge of the 24-7 news cycle, what is a responsible, civic-minded human to do? Paying attention constantly to the news feeds might not be sustainable. Using a UU frame, weโll explore how to take in the news with intention.

โGaia, Mother Earth, and the Oneness of Everythingโ at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary
Led by Jim Scott, UU musician โ The idea of Mother Earth or โGaiaโ being a living organism with the same physical attributes as humans connects us with our life support system. Paying attention to our โspiritual responseโ is so needed now, as โthe spirit of life on earth is in crisis.โ Jim Scott has long been an activist for peace and the Earth with his music. Some of his songs are in our UU hymn books.
