Social Justice Book Read / Discussions

Do immigrants depend on our social and health welfare programs? Do immigrants want to maintain the language and cultures of the countries they came from at the expense of assimilation? What is wrong with our current system of immigration and how can it be fixed? What is your own immigration story and how does it differ from current immigrant stories?

The Social Justice Team will be holding a Forum to discuss these questions and other immigration issues on Sunday. March 8 at 9:45 am in the Ely Room. To learn more check out our book read, Immigration Realities: Challenging Common Misperceptions by Ernesto Castaneda & Carina Cione. You don't have to read the book to join the discussion and we hope to see you there.

Three copies of the book have been purchased by the Social Justice Committee and are in the church library. You can find a copy of the book on the Global Issues and Community shelf.

The Social Justice book read and discussions in 2026 will be On Immigration Realities: Challenging Common Misconceptions by Ernesto Castaneda & Carina Cione. We ask that everyone try to read at least a chapter or two.  If borrowing the book please put a note with your name and date of borrowing in the social justice mailbox.  The book is available on Kindle for $16.19.
