Sunday, September 20: Bill McKibben at Dubuque Land and Water Festival | 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens
On Sunday, September 20, author and climate activist Bill McKibben is speaking at the Dubuque Land and Water Fest at the Dubuque Arboretum at 1 pm. Author of "The End of Nature,” his new book entitled "Here Comes the Sun" describes how our liberation and our destruction of the climate comes at the same time. Saturday, October 17: Refugee and Immigrant Association Celebration Night | 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Society
The Refugee and Immigrant Association (RIA) is hosting an event on Saturday, October 17, 5:00 - 8:00 pm at the UU Society, 2355 Oakdale Road in Coralville. RIA is led by African immigrants and refugees and serves that community both in Johnson and Linn counties. The event will honor Rev. pastor Jean Ruhigita Ndagora, a Congolese leader whose example of selfless service has inspired RIA. They will recognize 30-50 members of the refugee/immigrant community who have graduated from high school or college/university during the past year. The program will include a dinner, music, and a keynote address as well as the recognition of the graduates. This event is open to everyone in the community, at no cost. RIA is proud of its graduates and wants to share this joy with the broader community.
